Build audiences
On this page
Build custom audiences of companies, and the people in them, in chat or on Assets > Audiences. Audiences you build in MetadataONE don't use credits.
What a custom audience can include
- Companies: industry, size, revenue, technologies they use, location, or named companies.
- Contacts (optional): title, seniority, job function and location.
Retargeting, website-visitor, intent and lookalike audiences come from your ad channels. Pick them in the Campaign Builder.
Build one in chat
Ask Mei:
- "Build an audience of marketing directors at US software companies with 200 to 1,000 employees."
- "How many companies use Salesforce and Marketo in Germany?"
- "Make an audience from these companies: acme.com, globex.com."
Mei checks the size first and tells you how many companies and contacts match. She then saves the audience as a draft. Names can be up to 20 characters. A draft isn't sent to any channel until you publish it. Drafts expire: the Audiences list shows when, and an expired draft can't be published.
When you approve a campaign plan that includes a custom audience, Mei publishes it for you. It goes to every planned channel that has a connected ad account, and is attached to the campaign draft. Google Ads targets with keywords and locations instead.
Build one on the Assets page
- Go to Assets and click Create with AI > Audience. You can also start from Upload > Audience.
- Name the audience. Under Build this audience from, choose Filters, Upload a file or From your CRM or MA.
- Set the filters and watch the estimate.
- Click Save as draft.
Publish to your channels
- Open the audience and click Publish to channels.
- Tick the ad accounts to send it to. If a channel isn't connected, click Connect for it.
- Click Publish.
Each channel shows how many records it can take and its minimum:
| Channel | Minimum |
|---|---|
| 300 | |
| Meta | 100 |
| Microsoft Ads | 300 |
| X | 100 |
| 1,000 |
Below the minimum, tick Publish anyway to continue; matching may be unreliable. Each channel then shows its status, such as Publishing, Matching, Ready, Below minimum, Needs reconnect or Failed. To send a published audience to more accounts, click Add a channel.
Manage an audience
- Edit: change the filters. Mei can't change a saved audience on her own, but on the Edit page she can fill in the filters for you to save.
- Refresh now: rebuild it now instead of waiting for the monthly data release.
- Archive: it stops refreshing. You can't unarchive it.
- Delete (or Discard draft): this can't be undone. Lists it published to channels stop syncing.
