Metadata MCP - How to Connect

Connect Claude to your Metadata account with the Metadata MCP connector. You sign in with your Metadata login. You don't need to generate or copy an access token.

Before you start

• A Claude Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise plan. Pro is the minimum we recommend: the Free plan can add one custom connector, but its usage limits run out quickly when Claude works with your Metadata account.
• MCP access on your Metadata account. If you're not sure your account has it, contact support@metadata.io.
• Your Metadata login. If your company signs in to Metadata with SSO, you'll use SSO here too.
• The Metadata MCP server URL: https://mcp-server.metadata.io/mcp

Step 1: Add the connector in Claude

Pro and Max plans

1. In Claude (in your browser or the desktop app), go to Customize > Connectors.
2. Click + Add, then Add custom connector.
3. Enter a name, such as Metadata, and paste the URL https://mcp-server.metadata.io/mcp.
4. Click Continue, then Continue again.
5. Under Authentication, choose Sign in now or Sign in when needed (not No sign in). Under OAuth client, keep Use Claude's published identity (Recommended).
6. Click Add.

Team and Enterprise plans

An Owner or Primary Owner adds the connector for the organization. On Enterprise, a custom role with access to manage Libraries can also add it. Members then connect it with their own Metadata login.

1. The Owner goes to Organization settings > Connectors, clicks Add, hovers over Custom and selects Web.
2. The Owner enters the name and URL above and clicks Continue twice, sets Authentication and OAuth client as described for Pro and Max, and clicks Add.
3. Each member goes to Customize > Connectors, finds the Metadata connector and continues with Step 2.

Step 2: Sign in to Metadata

1. Click Connect on the Metadata connector.
2. On the Metadata page asking you to approve Claude's access, click Allow Access. You may not see this page when you reconnect later.
3. Sign in with your Metadata email and password, or with your company's SSO. You're asked to sign in even if you're already signed in to Metadata, so you can pick the right account.
4. If your browser asks, click Open to return to the Claude app. The connector now shows as connected.

Step 3: Check the connection

1. Start a new chat in Claude. If the connector is off for the chat, click + at the bottom left, choose Connectors and turn Metadata on.
2. Ask: "Which Metadata account am I connected to?"
3. When Claude asks for permission to use a Metadata tool, allow it.
4. Claude replies with your account name, your user and your account ID.

What Claude can do in your account

• Your role applies. Claude can only do what your Metadata user can do. A read-only user gets read tools only.
• Admins choose which tools are on. In Settings > Access Token, an account admin can turn off Allow MCP clients to use read tools or Allow MCP clients to use write tools. The change applies to clients that are already connected. With both off, Claude can only see the account details, the current date and the account list.
• Personal data is off until an admin allows it. Tools that return personal data, such as converted leads, LinkedIn senders and account activity, stay hidden from Claude until an account admin turns on Allow MCP clients to use personal-data tools on the same page. They're read tools, so they also need read tools on.
• Links come with a notice. Before Claude hands you a link that connects an ad channel or CRM, or downloads an audience's contacts, it has to tell you what the link gives access to.
• Tool calls use credits. Work Claude does through the connector is charged to your Metadata account's credits. Ask Claude "What's my Metadata credit balance?" to check it (this needs read tools on). When the balance runs out, Claude tells you the account is out of credits and most tools stop until it's topped up.

Other MCP clients

A client that can't sign in through the connector, such as Claude Desktop set up through its configuration file, uses your access token instead.

1. In Metadata, go to Settings > Access Token.
2. If you don't have a token yet, click Generate New Token and confirm.
3. Copy the Access Token and the MCP-Server URL, or click Download JSON for a ready-made Claude Desktop configuration. Click Accept on the security warning.

The downloaded configuration runs npx mcp-remote, so the computer needs Node.js installed.

Disconnect

In Claude, go to Customize > Connectors and remove the Metadata connector. On Team and Enterprise plans, an Owner removes it for everyone in Organization settings > Connectors.
