Connect your Google Ads account to launch search campaigns and sync audiences from Metadata.
Before you connect
- Your Google Ads account setup is complete.
- The Google login you connect with has Standard access or higher directly on the ad account. You can check and invite users under Access and security in Google Ads.
Manager (MCC) accounts: Metadata doesn't list manager accounts, or ad accounts you can only reach through one. Add the connecting login as a user on the ad account itself.
Choose the ad account carefully. Metadata connects one Google Ads account. Switching later doesn't move existing campaigns or audiences. See Can I Change Ad Accounts and Campaign Groups?
Connect
- In Metadata, go to Settings > Integrations and click Connect on the Google Ads card.
- Review Before Connecting to Google Ads and click Connect with Google.
- Sign in to Google in the pop-up and allow access.
- Under Select Your Account, choose the Ad Account and click Submit.
After you connect (Demand Hub)
Metadata creates a website conversion action in your Google Ads account and gives you a script to add to your website. You'll see it in Google Ads as a new conversion action. That's expected. To use a different conversion, click Settings on the Google Ads card, open Pixel Parameters and use Setup Conversion Action. See Do I need to install the Metadata Google Ads pixel if I already have conversion tracking?
Which audiences sync to Google
Google Ads only accepts contact audiences: Salesforce Contacts and Marketing Automation Contacts, static or dynamic. Account, firmographic, technographic, intent and CSV audiences aren't sent to Google.
How to reconnect
Click Settings on the Google Ads card, then Disconnect. Click Connect again and choose the same ad account, so your campaigns and audiences stay linked.
On a trial account, disconnecting pauses your Google Ads campaigns and deletes the audiences Metadata created in Google Ads. Contact support@metadata.io before you disconnect.
Troubleshooting
No ad account in the list
You see "No Ad account found". The Google login you used has no direct access to a regular (non-manager) ad account.
- If you signed in with the wrong Google login, click Cancel and connect again with the right one.
- If you just gave this login Standard access on the ad account, click I am ready! Let's try again!
Connection expired
You see "Error refreshing Google Ads API token, please reintegrate." Google stopped accepting the saved connection, for example after a password change, or when the connecting person left or lost access. Reconnect Google Ads (see How to reconnect above).
If it keeps happening and your company uses Google Workspace, your Workspace admin may be blocking third-party apps. Ask them to allow the Metadata app, then reconnect.
Permissions error
You see "Error in integration with Google Ads API, please reintegrate and check permissions", "ACTION_NOT_PERMITTED" or a message about "login-customer-id". The connected login doesn't have enough direct access to the ad account, often because it only has access through a manager account. Give it Standard access or higher on the ad account itself, then reconnect.
Audience doesn't appear in Google Ads
Check the audience type first (see Which audiences sync to Google above). If the type is right but Google Ads wasn't connected when you built the audience, open the audience's ⋮ menu and click Upload to Google Ads.
Give Metadata's team access
Metadata's team works in your account through a manager-account link request that you accept in Google Ads. See Add Google Ads permissions for Professional Services and Tech Support.
