Use the Optimizer
On this page
The Optimizer watches your campaigns and moves budget or pauses what underperforms. You can let it work on single campaigns, or put campaigns in an optimization group so their budgets are managed together.
Turn the Optimizer on for a campaign
- Go to Campaigns.
- In the Optimizer column, click the switch next to Off. It works for active, with-issues and paused campaigns.
- If your account lets the Optimizer apply recommendations automatically, you're asked "Turn on the Optimizer for {campaign}?" Click Turn on.
Turning it off takes effect at once. A campaign in an optimization group shows the group's name instead of a switch; the group decides for it.
Create an optimization group
A group needs 3 to 10 campaigns that share an objective and a currency.
- On Campaigns, under Optimization groups, click New group.
- Enter a Group name and choose the Objective and Currency. Optionally set an End date between tomorrow and a year out.
- Choose a Cap type (Daily, Weekly, Monthly or Custom) and an optional Budget cap. A Custom cap needs an end date. With no cap, the Optimizer moves budget between the campaigns' own daily budgets.
- Turn on Automatic budget changes to let the Optimizer apply changes itself. Leave it off to approve each one.
- Click Create & add campaigns, select 3 to 10 campaigns, and click Add to group.
You can also ask for a group while you build: turn on Optimization group in the Campaign Builder's Channels & budget pane, and Allow budget changes if the Optimizer may change budgets itself. The group is created once at least 3 of the launched campaigns have a day of data; with fewer than 3, no group is made. The Optimizer can't move X budgets. See Build a campaign in the Campaign Builder.
Manage a group
- Review changes shows the budget changes the Optimizer proposed. Pick the ones you want and apply them.
- The settings icon (Configure group) edits the group.
- Ungroup deletes the group. Its campaigns stay live.
- Click the group's name to see spend across its campaigns.
A group shows Automatic budget changes when the Optimizer applies changes itself. In Analytics, use the Optimization group filter to see one group's results. You can also ask in chat: "Apply the pending budget changes for my LinkedIn group."
Recommendations on the Dashboard
The Recommendations tab of the Dashboard's Live feed lists alerts and suggestions.
- Apply opens the details and what will change, such as pausing an ad. Confirm with the button, for example Pause ad.
- Dismiss removes a recommendation for good.
- Tick several to apply or dismiss them together.
Settings
Go to Settings > Optimizer. These settings apply to every ad account in your MetadataONE account:
- Auto-apply Optimizer campaign recommendations: applies recommendations on campaigns whose Optimizer switch is on, without waiting for you. Optimization groups use their own setting.
- Budget change frequency: the Optimizer checks performance every day but changes budgets at most once in this many days, from Every 2 days to Every 7 days.
